The State Government has awarded a $12,988 grant to support Shire of Dumbleyung efforts in establishing a new Family Day Care Service in Dumbleyung.
The grant is part of the State Government’s Attraction and Retention Packages for Regional Child Care Workers Program.
The Shire of Dumbleyung is looking to repurpose one of its existing houses located at 36 Tunney St, Dumbleyung into a family day care centre site.
The grant funds will be used to purchase furnishings, whitegoods and play equipment for access use at the new centre.
Shire President Amy Knight said ‘This is an exciting announcement for the Shire of Dumbleyung’.
‘With the recent closure of another family day care service in Dumbleyung, the Shire had to mobilise quite quickly to assist in identifying a suitable site’.
‘These essential grant funds will be utilised to provide important service set up costs to assist in attracting a day care operator onto site’.
‘The package on offer also includes rent free access to the Shire provided house, subject to the tenant running an accredited Family Day Care service’.
Shire Chief Executive Officer Gavin Treasure added ‘Family Day Care service licensing conditions requires the Shire to undertake some pre-service works on the property as part of the conversion process’.
‘These works include erection of new fencing, installation of a skillion roof shade structure (off the back veranda) and supply and laying of synthetic turf’.
‘The Shire has also commenced a recruitment process in an effort to secure the services of a new day care service operator. This placement (once confirmed) can commence after all site improvements have been completed.’
UPDATE 01/10/2025
Outside site improvement works are now complete (new synthetic lawn and fencing) except for some minor changes.
